In 2004 our staff turnover dropped in half, and has stayed at a low level. We have also been able to recruit stronger people into a more stable environment, and hire many new people through employee referrals. The immediate result of that reduction in turnover was improved physician efficiency and confidence in our staff – our staff were better prepared, well trained, and they stayed with the company! We also saw a reduction in recruiting costs and agency fees that corresponded with the reduction in turnover. In 2004 that cost reduction was just under $90,000 (close to 50% less than the prior year), and in 2005 our recruiting costs dropped another 35%.

“Our HEI (Healthy Environment Initiative) has been very positive and has really improved relationships. In my department’s last two patient surveys, for example, response to the question about satisfaction with staff attitude went from 65% to 99%-100%. That has a lot to do with the respect that has come out of this initiative and how people treat each other.”
